Tazarotene gel is very much effective for specially treating acne and psoriasis. Although it is best works against acne, you may not see the visible improvement for at least four weeks. Manufactured by Allergan, it is a prescription only medicine which is available in both gel and cream forms. Sufferers with mild to severe acne use Tazarotene 0.1% gel or 0.05% once daily. Tazarotene gel is more effective at reducing the acne lesions and in decreasing post inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
Identification
Tazarotene cream comes in 0.05% and 0.1% strength for treating the plaque psoriasis and the 0.1% strength cream also used for treating mild acne. It is a retinoid agent; obtained from vitamin A. Tazarotene 0.05 not only helps the pores to clean but also prevent the formation of comedones (known as whiteheads and blackheads).
Usage
Apply Tazarotene 0.05 once each evening. First gently cleanse your face with a mild cleanser and allow your skin to dry, and then apply a thin film of Tazarotene gel 0.05 to acne-affected areas and to areas prone to acne. Please avoid your eyelids, eyes or mouth. You can apply lotion or a moisturizing cream if you want to (anytime before or after applying this cream), but allow the Tazarotene gel to absorb and dry completely before applying the second product.
Side Effects
The most common side effects associated with Tazarotene gel are dryness, redness, stinging, peeling, itching, and burning sensations. Its usage can cause skin irritation if applied to eczema. This product makes your skin extra sensitive to weather extremes such as cold and the wind and to the ultraviolet light, and this can increase the risk of severe sunburn. Signs of throat closing, shortness of breath, hives, and facial or mouth swelling can be a possible allergic reaction to Tazarotene. Do not apply Tazarotene topical more frequent than recommended, as using too much quantity can cause significant peeling, redness, and discomfort and will not result in better or faster results.
Contraindications
Pregnant women or women who are likely to become pregnant should not use Tazarotene gel because retinoids can cause birth defects. Don’t apply this cream if you are taking any medicine that has a close to similar effects, such as tetracycline or fluoroquinolone antibiotics because it causes extra sensitivity to sunlight.
