Careprost for Treatment of Eyelash Hypotrichosis

Hypotrichosis is characterized by inadequate hair, and eyelash hypotrichosis is used for insufficient eyelashes. Eyelashes provide a natural protective barrier for the eyes from sunshine, foreign bodies, wind, and sweat. They are made to perform a similar function to the whiskers on a cat or mouse. They are quite sensitive to touch and provide signals when a foreign object is near the eye; they prompt the eye to close reflexively. Eyelashes serve as a protective barrier and enhance your eyes’ look. The absence of lashes removes one of the salient features of normal facial appearance.

Long and thick eyelashes are often considered a sign of femininity in most if not cultures. There are many causes of having inadequate eyelashes, including chemotherapy, hereditary ageing, other medical therapies, and unknown causes. Sometimes trauma involving the face and eye surgery may also cause the lash growth to be thin or be absent completely.

Prominent eyelashes are generally recognized as enhancing beauty and are often desired by women worldwide. Until recently, the options available to improve the prominence of eyelashes were limited to makeup, over-the-counter products, fake eyelashes, and eyelash transplantation. Originally discovered and FDA-approved for treating ocular hypertension, Bimatoprost, the active ingredient in the Careprost, is now approved for treating hypotrichosis of the eyelashes. Bimatoprost ophthalmic solution in a concentration of 0.03% is approved for treating hypotrichosis of eyelashes. The ophthalmic solution is applied once a day to the skin of the upper eyelid margin using a sterile single-use applicator to increase eyelash growth, including length, darkness, and thickness.

Result & Efficacy

When prescribed for treating eyelash hypotrichosis, using the accompanying applicators, a bimatoprost solution of 0.03% is to be applied daily to the skin of the upper eyelid margin at the base of the eyelashes. Patients are advised to apply the product after washing their face and removing all makeup. People who wear contact lenses should remove them before the application and reinsert them for at least fifteen minutes following application. Excessive products beyond the eyelid should be absorbed with a cloth or tissue. Beginning at week eight and continuing through the end of treatment, around week 16, statistically, significant differences in the proportion of responders favouring Bimatoprost ophthalmic solution were observed. By week eight, approximately half of all patients treated with the ophthalmic solution experienced a significant increase in the length and fullness of eyelashes.

Clinician ratings and patient-reported satisfactory responses have demonstrated the product’s effectiveness for eyelash growth. The effects of this medicine on eyelash length, darkness, and thickness are believed to happen due to longer anagen (growth) duration, increased melanogenesis (colour pigmentation), and increased hair bulb thickness. Dermally applied eye solution appears to be associated with a lower incidence of side effects than administration of the medications as an eyedrop. This more favourable safety and tolerability profile is likely mediated by decreased exposure of ocular tissues to Bimatoprost when applied topically. Available data suggests an application of 0.03% safely and effectively boosts upper eyelash growth.

Potential side effects may occur if the medication is administered inappropriately on the eye’s surface. The side effects in the clinical trials were eye irritation, dry eye symptoms, hyperpigmentation of the eyelids, conjunctival hyperemia (eye infection in response to inflammation), and pruritus.

Conclusion

The FDA has approved Bimatoprost (Careprost) 0.03% solution for increasing lash length, darkness, and thickness in patients with hypotrichosis of the eyelashes. For lash enhancement, one drop of the ophthalmic solution is placed on a single-use applicator brush and applied to the upper eyelid margin along the roots of the eyelashes once before bedtime. Eyelash enhancement associated with Bimatoprost usually occurs together with the darkening of the eyelashes. You can buy careprost, and it is safe and well-tolerated in patients.
